Child Play Therapy
Mercy Behavioral Center welcomes our new and wonderful Play Therapy room.
Play Therapy is a type of counseling or psychotherapy that uses play to communicate with and assist people, particularly children, to avoid or obtain resolution of psycho-social challenges.
Play Therapy can also be used as a tool of diagnosis. A therapist observes a client playing with different toys such as houses, dolls, etc to establish the cause of the disturbed behavior. The clinician examines pattern of plays and form of interaction to understand child‘s behavior both inside and outside the session. A wide body of literature has documented the effectiveness of play therapy, as a counseling model, in working with children and adolescents.
Child Therapy in Miami.
Our approach to treatment is to use play therapy as a type of desensitization or relearning therapy to change disturbing behavior, either systematically or in less formal social settings. These processes are normally used with children with different difficulties such as ADHD, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Disruptive disorder, Learning disorders, and others but are also applied with other type of clients such as verbally-impaired persons, slow-learners, brain-injured, sexually abused victims, drug-affected persons or other issues. Through a safe and supportive process clients are able to explore their world, accessing hidden or previously unexplored areas by using this expressive and creative way of working by playing.
